The KHS-400C laser lens is the replacement optical block for the DVD drive of PlayStation 2 Fat SCPH-50000 series consoles (v9, v10, v11). New, pre-calibrated replacement part, ready to fit: it restores DVD and CD game reading without replacing the whole drive.

When to replace it

The PS2 shows "Disc Read Error" or a brown/red screen
It reads CDs but not DVDs (or vice versa)
The disc spins but the game doesn't start or freezes while loading
Intermittent reading: it only works after several attempts
Unusual noise from the drive "searching" for the disc without finding it

The model code is printed on the rear label of the console: if it starts with SCPH-500xx, this is the right lens.

Before replacing the lens

Check that the disc spins properly and try cleaning the lens with a cotton bud and isopropyl alcohol. If the problem persists, replacing the optical block is the definitive fix. The KHS-400C arrives already calibrated: in most cases there is no need to adjust the potentiometer.
