The PS3 mod with custom firmware offers a huge number of features. One of the most used is Install Package Files, which you will find in the Game column of the XMB (the PS3 home screen with all the menus).
Install Package Files (or Package Manager) lets you install .pkg files (games or homebrew) from a USB stick/hard drive.
Installing pkg files is really simple; here is a quick explanation of how to do it.
Installing PKG files on a PS3 modded with custom firmware
To install a .pkg file on a PS3 modded with custom firmware you need to:
- copy it to the root folder of your USB stick/hard drive
- plug your device into the USB port closest to the console's disc drive
- go to the Game column, press X on Install Package Files and select the file to install
NOTES
If you are using Rebug custom firmware, you will find this feature renamed Package Manager. It lets you tell apart packages stored on external and internal storage, and you can also delete pkg files.
