Installing pkg files
The PS3 mod with custom firmware offers a huge number of features, including a folder in the Game column of the XMB (the PS3 home screen with all the menus).
The folder is called "Install Package Files" (or Package Manager) and lets you install .pkg files from a USB stick/hard drive.
Just press "X" on "Install Package Files" and select the file you want to install.
Transferring games
The custom firmware mod gives you 3 ways to transfer your games to the console:
- COPY A GAME FROM DISC: Just insert an original game disc and launch multiMAN (or mmcm), which will detect your disc. Select it, press the "Triangle" button and choose "COPY" from the menu that opens. When the copy has finished, just press "X" on the game you want to start and you will be taken back to the Game menu.
- COPY A GAME TO AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE/USB STICK: Format your hard drive or USB stick as FAT32, create a folder called GAMES on it and put your games inside in folder format. As in the previous method, launch multiMAN and press "X" on the game you want to start, and you will be taken back to the Game menu.
- COPY FROM PC TO THE CONSOLE'S INTERNAL HARD DRIVE: To transfer games from a PC you need to install FileZilla. Connect your PS3 via LAN cable or Wi-Fi and check its IP address under System Information (in the PS3's System Settings). Switch to FileZilla, enter the IP address in the first field and leave all the others empty, click "Quickconnect" and you will see all the folders and files on your console. The path to copy games to is devHdd0/GAMES, again in folder format. Once the games have been copied, as before, launch multiMAN and press "X" on the game you want to start, and you will be taken back to the Game menu.
Enabling PSN on a PS3 DEX - Fixing error 8002A224
If you own a PS3 with Rebug DEX custom firmware, you need to carry out one step before connecting to PSN, otherwise you will get error 8002A224.
Launch Rebug Toolbox and press "X"; in the last column on the right, choose the Change Active PS3ID option and select CEX (YES, even if you are on DEX).
